Combatting Dry Skin
With the cold winter we’ve had, it’s time to treat yourself and repair your dry skin! Here are some helpful tips and affordable hidden treasures that you can find at your local drugstores…
THE PERFECT CLEANSER:
If you have dry skin, you should go for the creamy, alcohol-free cleanser. All skin types should stay away from cleansers with soap in them because they’re way too harsh for our skin and will dry your face out (You don’t want all those wrinkles when you’re older)! For dry and sensitive skin, use cleaners that don’t contain fragrances or chemicals but do contain added moisturizers. Gently massage the moisturizer on your face and ALWAYS avoid scrubbing. You should only be using a quarter-sized amount of your cleanser when you wash your face.

THE PERFECT MOISTURIZER:
You should be sticking to the “three minute rule”: apply your moisturizer within three minutes after washing your face and/or body. Believe it or not, moisturizers don’t actually add moisture to your skin, they trap in existing moisture to prevent it from evaporating!

Other helpful reminders to avoid dry skin:
Drink enough water (Keep drinking your 8 glasses a day)
The heating in buildings take all of the moisture out of the air (Humidifiers are key in this case)
Make sure your diet includes lots of foods that contain Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids like kidney beans, spinach, grains and poultry for soft skin
Be mindful of the material of your clothes because it could be causing your dry skin. Stick with cotton and natural fibers when you can so your skin can breathe
Take warm showers instead of hot ones
