Ways to De-Stress During Midterm Week
With midterms starting to creep up on us, it is important to take some time out of the library to maintain your sanity. Relaxing and focusing on your own wellbeing is actually very beneficial when it comes to doing work, even if it is only for five minutes. So, if you are feeling agitated and over all of this schoolwork, here are 10 ways to unwind before you grab that third coffee and head back to the library.
1. Exercise- exercising is actually very beneficial as it releases endorphins in your body, which give you energy and helps to lower your stress.
2. Listen to music- listening to music can be a way to relax, as it is a mindless activity that helps you unwind.
3. Nap- taking naps, even for a short amount of time, are a good way to let your mind rest and recap all you have done. The nap should be under an hour so that you do not fall into your REM cycle.
4. Deep breathing- focusing on your breath and take some time to be in tune with your body can help reduce tension and relieve stress.
5. Unplugging- stepping away from the phone, computer, and iPad can also be very helpful in reducing stress. Uninterrupted computer use is associated with stress and loss of sleep – so make sure to take some time away from it.
6. Chewing gum- although it definitely makes your breath smell better, it also relieves anxiety!
7. Eat a banana- Potassium regulates blood pressure and it rises during the time of stress. Eating a banana also protects your body from the negative effects of stress.
8. Stretch- stretching and muscle relaxation is another big thing that helps reduce stress.
9. Eat- eating a small snack with protein in it can help refuel your body and keep you on track.
10. Walk- going for a small 10-minute walk can help clear your mind and it actually puts your body into a state of meditation.
